Description

Dogmarsh Bridge is a road bridge over the River Teign, built around 1840. It is constructed from granite ashlar and features a single span with a plain segmental vault supported by massive ashlar voussoirs. The arch begins at vertical abutments that have channelled rustication, which project slightly on both sides and rise to meet a projecting dripcourse at road level. The bridge ramps slightly towards the center, and the parapet has rounded coping that curves out at each end to terminal piers, which project externally. Although Dogmarsh Bridge is mentioned in 17th century documents, it is believed that the earlier bridge was located a short distance upstream.
