GV II

Shippon. Possibly C17 or earlier. Granite rubble with slated roof; verges of both gables have simple decorative slate-hanging. Consists of 2 compartments divided by a stone wall about 2 metres high. Single-storeyed with loft. North gable-wall facing road, the best feature of the building, has 3 ventilation slits at the lower level and 1 above; drain outlet at base of wall. West wall, facing farmhouse, has 2 ventilation slits in northern section. Doorway between them with plain granite lintel. Above it, to left, a loft door with iron strap-hinges. The southern section has a doorway to left and a window to right, both with wooden lintels; the window has been altered, and has a large lump of granite beneath it that could have been a feeding trough. Southern gable-wall has a loft doorway with wooden lintel, the plank door having old iron hinges. Interior: roof and loft floor-timbers renewed in C20. Southern section has simple drain in centre of floor; northern section was full of cow dung when inspected.
