Description
Honeysuckle Cottage is a house dating from the late 16th or 17th century. It is situated in Widecombe-in-the-Moor, Devon. The house has solid roughcast walls, likely built of stone rubble, though some cob may be present. It is covered by a thatched roof, which is half-hipped, and features a large, old granite chimneystack at the rear of the ridge. The house has an unusual plan for a rural Devon dwelling, as it sits at a right angle to the road, with the chimneystack at the rear of a deep front room, and a smaller room positioned behind that. To the left of the chimneystack is a small, rounded projection, likely a stair turret. The gable-end front has two storeys and one window width; each storey contains a wood casement window with glazing-bars. To the right of the ground-floor window is an old plank door with an inserted window. The interior was not inspected, but there appears to be a large open fireplace at the rear of the ground-floor front room.
