Description
The building is a shippon, likely dating from the 17th century, located directly north-west of Lower West Coombe Farmhouse. The structure features granite ashlar at the left and right ends of the south-east face, extending partially across the gable ends, with a small section of ashlar to the left of the center. The remainder of the building is constructed from granite rubble and has a corrugated iron roof with gable ends.
It has a long rectangular plan, currently divided into three parts by stone walls that may have been added later, with storage lofts above. The shippon is two storeys high. The south-east face includes what is likely the original doorway towards the left end, which has a dressed stone surround that is integral with the ashlar stonework. The lintel consists of three stones, including a taller central keystone. To the right of the doorway, there is a ventilation slit, and two doorways towards the right end, with a possible blocked doorway to the left of them that now incorporates a window opening with a loading doorway above.
In the left gable end, there is a loading doorway with an earlier blocked granite-framed opening just below it to the right. Inside, the central room has a blocked doorway in the rear wall opposite the front wall. The right-hand room features a heavy cross beam with a worn chamfer, which forks just before it reaches the front wall.
