Description

Kendon Farmhouse is a farmhouse with surviving features from the 17th century, including a date-stone from 1675, although some of the fabric may be older. The building has granite rubble walls that are rendered at the front and side, with the lower gable end having new render at the top, suggesting it may have originally had a hipped roof. There are two granite rubble stacks, one on the left gable which is likely from the 20th century, and an axial hall stack that features granite drip-moulds.

The farmhouse has a through passage plan with a hall and an inner room on the upper side. The hall stack backs onto the passage, while the lower end is divided into two unheated service rooms. It is two storeys high with an asymmetrical three-window front. The upper side of the passage has an early 20th-century casement window with glazing bars, and there is a metal frame 20th-century casement window below it, to the right of the passage. The doorway is located at the right of centre and features a 20th-century glazed door behind a 20th-century stone porch with a gabled roof.

To the right of the lower end, there is a ground floor window with a datestone that is roughly carved with the date May 28th, 1675. Inside, the hall fireplace has a chamfered wooden lintel with a straight cut and notched stop, and there is an oven on the right-hand side with an iron door. The left jamb is built in under the lintel. The roof space has not been inspected.
