Description
This is a disused farmhouse, likely dating from the early 17th century, situated within the yard of Tregune. It has been adapted for use as a shippon and store. The building is constructed of roughly coursed granite stone, with a slate roof featuring a gable end on the left and a hipped end on the right. A rear right wing has a corrugated asbestos roof. A circa 18th century wing extends from the lower end on the right, and a circa 19th-century shippon has been added as an outshut across the rear of the hall and inner rooms. The original plan is uncertain, and many internal domestic features, including fireplaces, have been blocked or covered. The front range likely originally had a three-room and cross or through-passage plan. The front elevation has a straight joint to the left of the central entrance, suggesting a later alteration. A stone rubble cross wall divides the central and left-hand rooms, and a further single-room range extends to the left, with a ramped access to the first floor – this range appears to have been partly rebuilt in concrete block. The front elevation has a 17th-century hollow-chamfered square-headed granite surround to the entrance, with straight cut stops. To the left is an opening that was likely originally the hall window and a stable-type door, both with chamfered granite lintels. A two-light mullion window is visible to the far left, with a ramped access. The first floor has a plank door on the far left, a two-light mullion window, and a wide opening above the site of the former hall window. A circa 17th-century chamfered granite square-headed doorframe is present in the rear left wing. Ventilation slits and drainage holes are visible to the rear of the 19th-century shippon. The interior has largely replaced floor joists. The rear wing retains large, roughly cut cross beams with rectangular section floor joists. Several pieces of dressed granite have been reused near the main entrance.
