Description

The shippon, located about 10 metres south-west of Oldsbrim Farmhouse, likely dates from the 17th or 18th century. It is constructed from granite rubble and has a roof covered with corrugated iron. The east wall, which faces the farmhouse, features a small doorway with a granite lintel on the left and a larger doorway with a 20th-century wooden lintel on the right, both equipped with old plank doors. The gable wall facing the road has three ventilation slits at ground level, now glazed, with a roughly-made drain outlet beneath them. Above, there is a larger opening, likely a former loft door, also covered with corrugated iron and featuring a granite lintel. The interior appears to lack notable features, although a central drain may be present beneath debris on the floor. The rear wall shows evidence of having been raised internally. At the right-hand end of the shippon, there is a granite lean-to with a corrugated iron roof, which includes at least two upright granite posts. Additionally, a high-quality wall made of coursed granite rubble runs at right angles from the left-hand end of the front wall of the shippon. The left-hand end, approximately 2.5 metres high, has a row of concrete-block buildings, likely pigsties, on the farmyard side, which probably replaced an earlier structure.
