Description
The shippon and barn, located about 15 metres south-east of Kingshead Farmhouse, are likely from the 18th century or earlier, with 20th-century additions on either side of the shippon and on the south-east side of the barn. Constructed from granite rubble, the buildings have a roof covered with corrugated iron. The structure is L-shaped, with the long, narrow shippon (which has a loft above) positioned at right angles to the barn.
The shippon features a doorway with a granite lintel in the north-west gable wall, facing the farmhouse, along with a ventilation slit above it. The north-east wall includes a loft door with old wrought-iron strap hinges at the right-hand end, and there is a blocked ventilation slit to the left. The south-west wall has two doors, one of which is now blocked.
The barn has a large doorway on the south-east side, featuring old plank double doors with wrought-iron strap hinges. There is also a 20th-century plank door with old hinges leading to the loft in the north-east gable wall. Inside, the barn retains old roof trusses with collars pegged to the faces of the principal rafters. In the shippon, against the north-east wall, there is a cobbled floor with a line of feeding-trough stones that have slots for tethering posts on top.
