Description
This building is a barn and shippon located approximately 25 meters south of Forder Farmhouse, dating from the 17th century. It is constructed from large blocks of roughly-dressed granite, which is almost ashlar, with some areas patched with granite stone rubble. The roof is made of corrugated iron, though it was originally thatched.
The structure features a threshing barn with an adjoining shippon that faces northeast. The barn has two central opposing doorways leading to the threshing floor; the front doorway is full height for double doors, while the rear doorway is smaller. The shippon is located at the right (northwest) end, with a roof that is continuous with that of the barn. It includes a doorway with a hayloft loading hatch directly above it and a window to the right.
In front of the barn, there are granite rubble lean-to sheds, one of which was once open-fronted and supported by monolithic granite posts. The main roof is gable-ended. The hayloft beams in both the shippon and barn are roughly finished and have some waney areas. The roof retains some original A-frame trusses made of large scantling with pegged lap-jointed collars, although some trusses towards the left end have been replaced in the 20th century.
