Description

The Whiddon Park deer park wall, located between the grid references SX 723 889 and SX 722 894, is likely a medieval structure that may date back to the same period as the deer park itself. Constructed from granite rubble, the wall is carefully built using large pieces of granite and stands up to 3 metres high in places. It features flat coping that projects very slightly. The wall is intact and represents a small section of a larger structure, with the remainder situated in Mortonhampstead parish. On the inside of the wall, there is a ditch. This wall encloses the park that originally belonged to Whiddon Park House, and there is a gateway through it that leads to a drive from the house, which is included in this section.
