Description

This gatepost, located on the road from Widecombe to Natsworthy at the south-west side of the entrance to the lane leading to Kingshead Farmhouse, is possibly medieval in origin. It is a slightly tapering granite monolith, roughly oblong in shape and about 1.5 metres high. An incised cross is found at the top of the north-east face, just above the gate-catch. According to Mr. E. N. Masson Phillips, this cross may hold significance as it stands near the 15th century Churchway.
