Description
The barn and shippon located to the south-west of High Hall Farmhouse are likely from the late 18th century and 19th century. They are constructed of slobbered rubble with a stone slate roof on the shippon and a corrugated sheet roof on the barn. The building is arranged in an L-shape, with the long barn oriented on a north-south axis and the shippon forming an east wing at the southern end.
The barn features a large square wagon doorway on the east side, which includes a rail for a sliding door. To the right of this doorway are two square windows, and above them is a square loading door. On the north side of the shippon, there is a wide square-headed doorway offset to the left, an oblong window to the right, and a loading window situated above and between these. At the east end of the shippon, there is a large external stone staircase leading to a loft doorway. The east gable of the barn has pigeon holes, and above these is a datestone that is difficult to read but is popularly believed to be inscribed with "1399." This barn and shippon are part of a prominent group of buildings that includes High Hall.
