Description
The Old Post Office is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house, likely built in the late 17th century or early 18th century, and has undergone enlargements and alterations. It is constructed from roughly coursed sandstone rubble with quoins and features a stone slate roof. The building has a single-depth, two-unit plan oriented on an east-west axis and faces south.
It stands two storeys tall and has three windows that are almost symmetrical. The ground floor includes a central gabled porch, which may be a recent addition, flanked by large square windows that are now fitted with 6-pane sashes. On the first floor, there is a 4-pane sash window in the center and a 6-pane sash window on either side. The front left corner is partially obscured by an outshut from the adjoining property, which is not of special interest. A corbelled chimney is located at the east gable, and there is a ridge chimney at the junction to the left. The rear of the building has an inserted back door to the right, a small stair-window in the center, and two additional windows on each floor.
The interior was not inspected. The Old Post Office forms a group with the Old School, which is located diagonally opposite to the southwest.
