Description

The House at Iron Mills is a building from the early 19th century, constructed from granite rubble and topped with a thatched roof that features gabled ends and end stacks. It has a two-room layout, likely originally designed with a central passage, although the left-hand partition has been removed. Both rooms are heated by gable end stacks. The house includes a rear left lean-to and a rear right outbuilding that have been integrated into the living space.

It stands two storeys high and has a roughly symmetrical front with three windows, along with a gabled timber porch. The windows are casements with small panes, featuring two-light windows from the 19th century on the first floor and three-light iron windows from the 20th century on the ground floor. Inside, there are open fireplaces with stone rubble jambs; the left-hand fireplace includes a bread oven, and its lintel was constructed at Iron Mills. The lintel of the right-hand fireplace is made from a part of a trip hammer. The house is positioned gable-end to the road and is noted for its group value with the nearby mill building at Iron Mills, which it may have been built around the same time as.
