Description

The farmbuildings forming the farmyard to the north of Townsend Farmhouse date from the 17th century and later. They include a threshing barn, linhay, and storage buildings, primarily constructed of whitewashed rendered cob with roofs made of corrugated iron, corrugated asbestos, and slate. These buildings enclose a narrow courtyard north of Townsend Farmhouse.

The west range features a 17th-century threshing barn with a hipped corrugated iron roof and a lean-to on the west side. This barn is lofted and has a large entrance facing the courtyard, supported by a jointed cruck roof truss. The south range runs parallel to the farmhouse and consists of two blocks with a narrow entrance between them. The right-hand building is a linhay with a corrugated asbestos roof, open at the front towards the courtyard and lacking openings on the side facing the road. To the left of the entrance is a two-storey storage building with a corrugated iron roof and no openings on the road side. Attached to this building on the east side, projecting beyond the farmyard, is another two-storey structure with a slate roof gabled at both ends. Stone steps lead up to a loft doorway on the front wall facing the road, with a six-pane window to the left on the ground floor.

The east range contains a storage building situated between the farmhouse and the south range. These farmbuildings collectively form a group with Townsend Farmhouse, which is located on the road at the western end of Dunsford village.
