Description
Old Post Cottage is a house that was formerly part of the Post Office and is believed to have originated as a farmhouse called 'Chubbs Farm' in the center of Dunsford village. It likely dates back to the 17th century. The building features whitewashed rendered cob on stone rubble footings, with the right gable end constructed from large blocks of dressed coursed granite topped with a coped gable. The thatched roof is gabled at both ends, and there is a massive granite stack on the right gable end made from finely-dressed coursed blocks, which has five coped set-offs and a late 20th-century rectangular chimney shaft. It appears that this property served as the service end of a larger farmhouse, with the right-hand room functioning as a kitchen from the 17th century. The house is two storeys tall and has an irregular three-window front. A 20th-century front door is located on the left side, accompanied by a gabled porch canopy. There are two first-floor and two ground-floor two-light casement windows with glazing bars. Notably, the first-floor window on the left has a wooden plaque painted "Cheese Window," which is not in its original position.
