Description

Cleve Cottage is a house dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, accompanied by a garden wall to the south. The building features stone construction up to the first floor level, with cob above that, all whitewashed and rendered. It has a thatched roof that is half-hipped at both ends, while a slate roof covers a later addition at the right end. There is a left gable end stack with a brick shaft and a similar axial stack.

The cottage has a two-room plan, with the larger hall/kitchen located on the right, heated by a fireplace on the left side of the room in an axial stack. The smaller unheated room to the left possibly has a later stack in the end wall. To the right, there is a one-room plan later addition. It is unclear if the cottage adjoining Cleve Cottage to the north at right angles was ever part of the same property.

The building stands two storeys high and has an irregular three-window front. There is a front door leading into the half-room on the left and a second entrance into the slate-roofed addition at the right end. The windows are 20th-century casements, with the two ground floor windows featuring timber lintels.

Inside, the hall/parlour includes a roll-moulded cross beam and an open fireplace with a cambered moulded lintel. Adjacent to Cleve Cottage is a whitewashed rendered cob garden wall with tile capping, which encloses the garden to the south.
