Description
This is a house, likely originating in the 17th or early 18th century, and initially comprising a pair of cottages. It is constructed of painted rubble walls and has a wheat reed thatched roof. Large dressed granite stacks rise from the gable ends, with the right-hand stack being external. A later lean-to on the right has a grouted scantle slate roof.
Originally, the house featured two rooms separated by a thick stone wall. The rear of each room was originally partitioned off as a pantry. Later additions include a 19th-century lean-to on the right and a 20th-century extension on the left.
The south-south-west facing front is symmetrical, featuring two windows and a central 20th-century thatched-roofed porch. The windows are 20th-century 12-pane horned sashes set in old openings. Other alterations include a 19th-century lean-to and a 20th-century extension. The rear of the property has old ledged doors with coloured glass inserted.
Inside the left-hand room is a large, splayed fireplace with a timber lintel (now reinforced) and a cloam oven with its original door located behind the right-hand jamb. Another fireplace has been partially blocked. The ceiling features 19th-century beams. The original roof structure has not been inspected. The gate piers to the west are also part of the listed building.
