Description
This is a shippon, or cattle shed, located about 20 metres north of Uphill House, dating from the 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed from granite rubble and has a roof covered with corrugated asbestos. The building stands two storeys high, with the ground floor featuring ventilation slits. There is a doorway on the right side, along with two loft doors that have heavy granite lintels. The left-hand loft door is accessed by a flight of old granite steps. Additionally, on the left side of the ground floor, there is a 17th-century round-arched, moulded granite doorway, which has "1863" carved in the spandrels; the figure "8" appears to have been re-cut from what was originally a "6".
