Description
The building is a barn located immediately south of Zeal Farmhouse, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of granite rubble and features a grouted scantle slate roof with gabled ends. The barn includes a shippon built into the bank, with a farm located above it, and has a later lean-to at the front and a smaller extension at the lower end. It faces the farmyard in front of the house, which is not listed.
The ground floor has shippon doorways with cambered granite arches. To the left, there is a lean-to with a corrugated asbestos roof. External stone stairs lead to a wide loading door positioned to the left of the center, which has a canopy now clad in corrugated asbestos. There are three small ventilation slits beneath the eaves. At the rear and right-hand end of the barn, there are barn doors, both located at a higher ground level, with the right-hand end doorway now glazed. At the lower left-hand end, there is a later 19th-century extension featuring a lower slate roof, a ground floor shippon doorway with a cambered brick arch, and a loading door above.
