Description

Higher Lutton Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century or early 17th century. It is constructed of plastered stone rubble, with part of the first floor being slate hung. The building features a slate roof with gabled ends and has a three-room layout with a through passage. This layout is extended at the lower end and includes an axial hall stack that backs onto the through passage, as well as an axial stack at the rear lower end (west). There is a lateral stack at the rear of the lower room and a stair turret at the back of the hall. A later lean-to has been added to the outshuts at the rear. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a long five-window range, with 19th and 20th-century casements. There is a stone porch with a lean-to slate roof at the through passage doorway, located near the centre of the building. The gabled stair turret at the rear of the hall features a heavy two-light chamfered granite mullion window with a hoodmould. Inside, there are timber newel stairs, and the fireplaces have been blocked. A chamfered ceiling beam is present at the higher end of the house. The roof has not been inspected.
