Description
Wisteria Cottage and Old Forge Cottage is a Grade II listed building located in South Brent, Lydia Bridge. This cottage, which has been divided into two, was possibly originally a miller's house. It dates from the 17th century, with a later addition from the late 19th century. The structure is built of whitewashed stone rubble and features a slate roof with half-hipped and gabled ends. It has one storey and attics, and is set back from the road, forming an L-shape in plan.
The front of the building includes a gabled stair turret next to the doorway, along with a large stone chimney stack with set-offs that rises from the angle. To the left (west), there is a gabled cross-wing that was extended in the late 19th century. A 20th-century glazed porch fills the space between the wing and the stair turret. The cottage has a plank door and various 19th and 20th-century casement windows.
