Description

Zeal Bridge is a road bridge over Bala Brook, a moorland brook that is a tributary of the River Avon. It was built in 1810 and widened in the 20th century. The bridge is constructed from granite rubble and features a wide single span with a shallow segmental arch. The arch has a recessed arch ring made of dressed granite voussoirs. On the west upstream side, there is a plain square tablet above the arch that displays the date 1810 in large serif figures. The parapets are topped with roughly squared granite coping stones. The bases of the piers have been reinforced with concrete, and the downstream east side has been widened with a concrete beam.
