Description
No. 19 Fore Street is a house dating from around 1850. It is constructed of local grey limestone rubble, with the first floor of the front made of painted brick and the ground floor stuccoed and blocked out. The roof is slate, hipped at the ends, and there are end stacks and cast-iron rainwater goods. The rear elevation is slate-hung above a cartway, and there is a rear wing that is partly weatherboarded with a corrugated asbestos roof.
The building has a double-depth plan, being one room wide with a cartway entrance to the left that leads to a rear court. The rear right wing is at right angles to the main structure and may have been a stable or workshop, featuring a first-floor loft with a loft doorway in the end.
The exterior consists of two storeys with an asymmetrical 1:1-window front, where one first-floor window is positioned above the cartway. The fenestration is regular, with very deep eaves and a first-floor platband. To the left of the cartway is a doorway featuring a 6-panel door, where the upper panels are moulded and fielded, and the lower panels are flush. There is a deep overlight with margin panes and coloured glass, and the doorcase has masons' mitres. The ground floor has one window and two first-floor windows, all of which are 19th-century 12-pane sashes, one of which is horned and has old glass. The cartway is fitted with a pair of cut-down timber gates that have cover strips. The interior has not been inspected but may retain features of interest.
