Description

A pair of houses, likely dating to the 18th century or earlier with alterations in the 1830s, forms a single building phase. The exterior is stuccoed, with a slate roof featuring gabled ends. A right-end stack is built of stone rubble, topped with cylindrical and square tapering old pots. A rear lateral stack is present on No. 20, also with old pots, alongside cast-iron rainwater goods. The houses are arranged with a main range and two long rear wings set at right angles, projecting into a rear court, and reportedly incorporate a flying freehold arrangement. The front elevation has a 2:1-window arrangement with regular fenestration. No. 20, on the left, is symmetrical and features a moulded eaves cornice, a central recessed 6-panel front door (with lower flush panels and an overlight), and two ground and two first-floor hornless 4-pane sash windows, the ground-floor window on the left having a moulded architrave. No. 21 has a recessed 6-panel front door with moulded fielded upper panels, lower flush panels, and an overlight, along with one ground and one first-floor hornless sash windows. The ground-floor window has a moulded architrave. The interior was not inspected but may retain features of interest. The building is a significant feature of Fore Street.
