Description

A group of three monuments to the Spurrell family is located in the churchyard about 1 meter east of the chancel of the Church of St Mary. These headstones date from the early 19th century and are made of slate.

The first monument is to Samuel Spurrell, who died in 1831. It features a nowy head with a roundel on each side and includes a laudatory quatrain, crafted by J. Toop of Whitchurch. The second headstone commemorates Samuel Spurrell, who passed away in 1804. It is a plain, nowy-headed stone with a valedictory quatrain. The third monument is dedicated to Mary Spurrell, who died in 1810. This headstone also has a nowy head and features incised scroll decoration at the top.
