Description

A group of three headstones, dating from 1739, 1740, and 1762, is located 1 metre south of the south aisle at the Church of St. Mary in Car Colston. These headstones are made of Leicestershire slate. The leftmost headstone features a shouldered arched top with incised scrolls and is dedicated to Elenor Woollerton, dated 1762, and signed by 'James Sparrow'. The central headstone has a square shape with scrollwork and foliate borders, commemorating John Woolerton from 1740, and is in the style of J. Sparrow. The rightmost headstone has a stepped arched head with scrollwork, dedicated to Thomas Woolerton, dated 1739, and is also signed 'J. Sparrow fecit'.
