Description
Upper Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of coursed, squared stone and features concrete tiles, with plain clay tiles on the low wing. The building has a four-bay front and a two-bay rear wing that forms an 'L' shape, all standing at 2 and a half storeys high, with an additional 1 and a half storey rear wing at the opposite end.
The entrance front faces the drive and includes mullioned windows with plain chamfers, iron opening lights, and leaded lights, but no hoodmoulds. There is a plinth with a 3-light window on the right side, a 6-panel door with 4 glazed and 2 flush panels, which is accessed by one stone step. Above the door, there is a 3-pane rectangular fanlight and a stone lintel, all beneath a boarded, single-storey gabled porch. To the left, there is a three-light window and the outline of a blocked, narrower window beyond it. On the upper level, there are two 3-light windows with a single-light window in between. The roof features hipped dormers with 2-light casements at each end, an ashlar chimney located one bay from the left end, a ridge chimney slightly to the left, and a chimney on the projecting gable of the rear wall for the right room. The gables have parapets and cross-gablet apices.
On the right return, there is a plinth with a 3-light window on both the ground and first floors, along with a boarded door leading to the low rear wing, which has a hipped roof and a square projection on the right. The farmhouse forms a group with the barn and houses opposite.
