Description
The road bridge over Berkeley Pill, located at the southern end of High Street, dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features an iron balustrade. The bridge has a segmental arch supported by piers, with a total width of about 12 meters and the top of the arch approximately 3.5 meters above the water level. The arch is made of even stone voussoirs and includes an enlarged dropped keystone, a moulded cornice, and a blocking course that supports the balustrade, which has a diamond pattern interrupted by four oval openings. The end piers are offset at the impost level and extend to the balustrade level, featuring a plinth, moulded cornice, and a tent top capping. At the time of the survey, the bridge was partially overgrown.
