Description

The footbridge over Berkeley Pill on the Berkeley Castle Estate dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a round arch that is approximately 8 meters wide and 3 meters above the water level at the keystone. The arch has even stone voussoirs and an enlarged dropped keystone. There is an offset and blocking course, along with an additional course and coping at the corners, although the coping is missing on the southeast side. On the east side of the arch, there are wooden flood gates and iron machinery to control them. The pathway on the bridge is about 1.5 meters wide, making the total width of the bridge approximately 2.5 meters.
