Description
No 56, also known as Pentire, is a small house located in a terrace on Berkeley High Street. It dates from the early 18th century and is constructed of brick set on a partial rubble plinth. The building features a brick cornice made up of three oversailing courses and a two-brick string course, along with deep brick pilaster strips. The roof is covered with pantiles and there is a tall brick chimney stack on the right side.
The house has a single front range with a small rear wing and stands two storeys high. It has two windows, which are two-light leaded casements. On the ground floor, there is a four-pane sash window to the right, framed with a moulded wood frame and splayed brick voussoirs. To the left is a six-panel door, with the top two panels being glazed and the rest fielded. The door is accessed by one stone step and is topped with a moulded flat wooden hood supported by brackets, along with a moulded wood surround.
