Description

No. 58 High Street is a large house in a terrace, dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of brick with a pantile roof, featuring the lowest two eaves courses made of Cotswold stone slate and brick end stacks. The house has a single front range and a large rear extension, with some exposed timber framing on the first floor. It stands two storeys high and has four windows: three wood mullion and transom windows under segmental brick arches on the left, and one twin casement window on the right, all with leaded glass.

The ground floor originally had four 12-pane sash windows with moulded wood architraves under segmental brick arches, although the window to the left of the door is now half blocked and measures four panes wide (eight panes total). The central door features a large flat wooden hood with sprocketed eaves supported by scrolled brackets and slopes downwards. Above the door is a rectangular fanlight with one wood mullion and eight small leaded panes on each side. The door itself consists of eight long panels and is cut off by the line of the pavement at the base, also with a moulded wood architrave. The building was empty at the time of the survey in November 1984, and while the interior was inaccessible, it was noted that internal shutters and main beams remained in the front rooms.
