Description

Burley and two unidentified monuments are located about 5 meters east of the northeast nave buttress in the churchyard of the Church of St Mary the Virgin. The site features three chest tombs: one commemorating Thomas Burley, who died in 1728, and two unidentified tombs from the late 18th century. All are made of limestone and have flat tops.

The Burley tomb has a moulded plinth and capping, quarter balusters, and cartouche ends, with plain side inscription panels that include flanking foliage reliefs. It shows erosion on the south and west sides and was partially overgrown at the time of the survey in November 1984.

The first unidentified tomb, located 1 meter south of the Burley monument, has a moulded plinth and capping on a base, gadrooned quarter balusters, end cartouches, and sides featuring moulded rectangular panels with eared corners.

The second unidentified tomb, situated 1.5 meters southwest of the Burley monument, has a moulded capping and a plain plinth. Its flattened lyre ends include cartouches, and the sides are divided into three plain fielded panels. The top of this tomb is eroded around the edges.
