Pair Of Clutterbuck Monuments,About 3M East Of North East Pier Of Porch In Churchyard Of Church Of St Mary The Virgin

The pair of Clutterbuck monuments, located about 3 meters east of the northeast pier of the porch in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, consists of two chest tombs. The southern tomb commemorates Peter Clutterbuck, who died in 1777, while the northern tomb is for another Clutterbuck, who died in 1796. Both monuments are made of limestone and feature flat tops with moulded plinths and capping.

The southern tomb has quarter baluster corners, plain fielded end panels, and large fielded rectangular side panels with eared corners. The northern tomb has indented corners and fluted ends all around, adorned with a diamond frieze and a large applied diamond panel. The sides of the northern tomb are divided into two flush rectangular panels on the south side and two raised ovals on the north side, with a carved bird, possibly a pelican, positioned between them.
