Pair of unidentified monuments in the churchyard of the Church of St Peter, c8-10m north of the north door

GV II

Pair of unidentified chest tombs. Early-mid C17. Ferruginous limestone:- a) Tomb nearest entrance to church. Flat-chamfered plinth; raised circular inscription panels on the north and south sides; single blind arch with keystone with pendant and spandrels with bossed decoration; rusticated clasping 'buttresses' at each end. Thick capping with moulded margin. b) Chest tomb c2m to the north of and in the same style as the preceding. Flat-chamfered plinth. Single large sunken oval inscription panels with raised margin on the north and south sides forming part of strapwork decoration with bosses in each corner. Clasping 'buttresses' strapwork decoration at each corner. Blind arch and foliate decoration at each end. Very thick capping with moulded margin.
