Description

The Power House is a house built in the early 20th century by the same architect as Dairy House. It features red brick construction, mostly pebbledashed, with close-studded and decorative timber framing on the first floor. The roof is covered with large stone slate tiles, while the outhouse has a corrugated asbestos roof and brick stacks. The house has a rectangular plan with an outhouse positioned at right angles to the rear, which originally housed generators that supplied electricity to Dumbleton Hall located to the north.

The house is two storeys tall, and the outhouse is a single storey. The south front has a brick plinth and pilasters on the ground floor. A gable projects forward to the left, featuring a 4-light sliding sash window on the ground floor and a 3-light sliding sash window above it. To the right of the gable, there is a flat-roofed porch with an early 20th-century part-glazed plank door. The north-east facing gable has a five-light canted bay with sliding sash windows, and a jetty is lit by a 3-light sliding sash window above. The outhouse has tall segmental-headed windows and double-width entrances with brick dressings, and all windows include glazing bars. The north-east gable end of the house is hipped, and there are axial and off-the-ridge stacks. The interior has not been inspected. This building is a striking and virtually unaltered example of early 20th-century estate architecture.
