Description
East Lodge at the gates to Dumbleton Hall is a house built around 1905. It is constructed from coursed finely squared and dressed limestone, featuring alternate shallow and deep courses on the first floor, and has a stone slate roof with an ashlar stack. The building has a rectangular plan and includes a 20th-century flat-roofed garage extension on the south side.
The lodge is 1½ storeys high. On the east front, there are triple gablets that slope down to the right and left. The lower left has a 5-light stone-mullioned casement, while the right side features two small 2-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements. A continuous hoodmould runs over the ground floor windows. The upper floor has two 4-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements with moulded hoods. A Tudor-arched entrance to the porch is located at the northeast corner of the building.
On the north front, there is a central dormer with a 3-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement with a transom on the ground floor. Above this, there is a 3-light stone-mullioned casement with a stopped hood, and a small rectangular window in the gablet. The Tudor-arched entrance to the porch is located on the lower left. A continuous hoodmould is present over the ground floor windows and the entrance to the porch.
The rear elevation features twin gables with a central 2-storey rectangular bay window. The gable ends have flat coping with roll-cross saddles. A large triple central stack has moulded cappings and lozenges in relief. The lead rainwater goods are decorated with floral designs. The interior has not been inspected. This lodge is part of a group of notable estate buildings likely designed by one of the Broadway Arts and Crafts architects.
