Description
The Villa is a house built in the early 19th century. It features a red brick construction with a slate roof and brick stacks. The main body has a rectangular plan and includes a large service range that was formerly a smithy, positioned at right angles to the rear. The house is two storeys high with a symmetrical facade that has three windows. On the ground floor, there are two canted bays with 16-pane sash windows, while the first floor has three 16-pane sash windows.
The central door, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century, has four glazed panels and two flush panels, topped by a fanlight and set within a gabled porch that has lattice-work sides and decorative column supports on an artificial stone plinth. The windows on the service range/smithy include segmental-headed casements and two half dormers with sash windows, along with 19th-century fixed casements featuring glazing bars on the north front. The main body has gable-end stacks adorned with brick dentils. The interior has not been inspected. The Villa was formerly the home of Ann Staite, whose diaries from 1880 to 1892 are referenced in Susan Oldacre's book, The Blacksmith's Daughter, published in 1983.
