Description
The Bedwell and unidentified monument is located about 1 metre east of the chancel in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary. This structure consists of two pedestal tombs, with the northern tomb dedicated to Elizabeth Bedwell, dating from 1740, and the southern tomb being unidentified, also from 1740. Both tombs are made of limestone and share a similar design featuring a tall stepped top and a chamfered cap that rises to a small flat pyramidal section with a fluted "frill." The main body of each tomb has slightly indented corners, and the base of the cap includes additional moulded pieces on the east and west sides.
The inscriptions are located on the fielded north and south sides of the tombs. The ends of both tombs feature high relief carvings on panels and returns, showcasing similar emblems. On the eastern side, the Bedwell tomb displays a cartouche, while the unidentified tomb features three cherubs' heads, both accompanied by a mirror, a book, an hourglass, and a trumpet on the returns. The western sides have plain panels with palm leaves, and the returns display a skull and torch.
