Description
Number 1, including gatepiers and flanking walls, is a lodge house dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of stucco with a replacement tile roof and features an ashlar chimney. The gatepiers are made of ashlar, while the flanking walls are built from tufa.
This single-storey lodge has a portico facing Ferney, with a wall that curves from the lodge to the gatepier. There are a pair of curving flanking walls on the south side of the gatepiers, which are terminated by piers. The front includes an open-sided Tuscan portico, which is distyle in antis and features an armorial beast within a lozenge in the tympanum. The central doorway has a 20th-century glazed door. Stone ball finials are present at the gable ends.
There are lean-tos on each side, with the one on the north having a flat roof that is not of special interest. Scattered casement windows can be found at the rear and sides, with timber lintels. The gatepiers have moulded pyramid caps and large ball finials, with foliage carving on the lower half. The flanking walls have plain coping, and the outer piers are made of tufa with pyramidal caps. This building was formerly a lodge to Ferney Hill.
