Description

Elm Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with a late 18th-century addition. It is timber-framed, partially rebuilt in brick, and features a lias wing with a clay plain tile and stone slate roof. The building has a three-room lobby entry and is two-storey, with a two-storey wing at right angles, forming an L-plan.

The north front displays small framing on a lias plinth, with a plank door to the right and timber casement windows. The fenestration is otherwise scattered, and there is a limestone ridge chimney with a moulded cap. The wing projects to the right of the front and has scattered fenestration and a plank door, all featuring segmental arched heads. The north gable end is patched in brick and has a ridge gable end chimney stack.

The east gable end is small-framed on a lias plinth with single-window fenestration, and there is a single-storey outbuilding to the left, which is timber-framed. The south elevation has been partly refaced in brick, with a small-paned casement window featuring a segmental arched head and 20th-century glazed doors to the left. The remaining part to the right is small-framed on a lias plinth. The west gable end is brick with an upper floor off-centre casement and a ridge chimney stack. An attached former stable on the lower level has a loft door in the west end gable.

Internally, there is a large central chimney stack constructed in limestone, and the ground floor of the north wing was formerly a cider cellar.
