Description

PAINSWICK VICARAGE STREET SO 8609/8709 (part) (south side) 8/330 Tabitha's (formerly listed as Nos 1, 2 and 3 21.10.55 Southfield cottages) GV II Shown on OS Map as Archway Cottage. House, formerly in 3 occupations. C17 fabric but substantial C19 and C20 modifications. Coursed squared and dressed limestone block to front, coursed-rubble elsewhere, steep pitched slate roof; small ashlar ridge stack at original outer gable, left. Plan now difficult to read, but may have been broad frontage through passage house, to which end bay added, left, and later divided into 3 cottages. Two storeys, 4 windows. At ground floor a wide garage opening flanked by single light, left under a common stopped drip, and a 2-light casement flanked by two blank doorways also to common drip; at eaves are four 2-light casements, and a single light in return gable, right. all casements recessed chamfer mullion. The principal entry now in the throughway via a moulded stone door surround. Back in mainly C20 windows. Interior much altered, not fully inspected. On street front, far left, remains of buttress with offset.
