Description

Tabitha's is a house located on Vicarage Street in Painswick, originally known as Archway Cottage. It has 17th century fabric but has undergone significant modifications in the 19th and 20th centuries. The front is made of coursed squared and dressed limestone blocks, while the rest of the building features coursed rubble. It has a steeply pitched slate roof and a small ashlar ridge stack at the original outer gable on the left side.

The layout is now difficult to interpret, but it may have originally been a broad frontage through passage house, with an end bay added on the left and later divided into three cottages. The house is two storeys high and has four windows. On the ground floor, there is a wide garage opening flanked by a single light window on the left, which is under a common stopped drip, and a two-light casement window flanked by two blank doorways, also under a common drip. At the eaves, there are four two-light casement windows and a single light window in the return gable on the right, all with recessed chamfered mullions. The main entrance is now accessed through the passageway, featuring a moulded stone door surround. The rear of the building mainly has 20th century windows, and the interior has been significantly altered, though it was not fully inspected. On the street front, at the far left, there are remains of a buttress with an offset.
