Description

Cornerways Stephana is a house dating from around 1700 or the early 18th century, typical of the gabled Cotswold style. It has two and a half storeys and a basement, constructed from rubble with ashlar quoins. The roof is made of stone and modern tiles, featuring saddlestones. A chimney on the north-east side has a moulded capping.

At the rear, there is a slight gabled break with a moulded oval apex window and two light chamfered mullion windows—one in the attic and two on the ground and first floors, all sharing common labels. There is a later one-window extension to the left. The west return elevation has three gables, with the central one being smaller. The east return elevation features two gables; the right-hand one is set back and has an oval window in the roof space, while the left-hand one includes a newel stair. There is also a later one and a half storey extension to the left.

The road front has a flush gable to the left, with a similar arrangement of windows as the rear and a moulded porthole window in the roof space. The ground floor features a central door in an ovolo moulded frame, flanked by modern windows under a moulded beam that has stopped ovolo moulding, similar to the interior fittings. Inside, there are traces of former newel stairs in the north-east corner. The east room on the ground floor has a stopped ovolo moulded beam and doorcase. The roof construction includes extended collar trusses on the gable ends.
