Description

This is an early 18th-century cottage, originally a “Cotswold”-type house with a cross-gabled design. It is located on the south-east side of Old Horsley Road. The exterior is constructed of rubble stone with ashlar quoins, and has a roof of stone tiles. The windows are casements with chamfered stone mullions, and there are oval roof-space lights above the attic windows. A feature is the altered right-hand ground floor window and a reduced left-hand first-floor window due to a later extension (Wayside Cottage). The central doorway has a high label and a wide chamfered surround, which is stopped at the base, with strap hinges having heart-shaped ends. A twin-gabled return to the right side mirrors the front, although it features a three-light attic window with mullions to the left. An oval window on the right has the date "1631" inscribed in modern cement. The rear elevation is four storeys high.
