Description

The pair of Mayo monuments, located about 2 meters east of the John Cornock monument in the churchyard of the Church of St Mary the Virgin, consists of two chest tombs. The northern tomb commemorates John Mayo of Breadstone, who died in 1735, while the southern tomb marks the burial of John Mayo, who died in 1718. Both monuments are made of limestone and feature flat tops with moulded plinths and capping.

The northern tomb has panelled corner piers with raised round-arched end panels. Its sides display two octagonal raised panels on the south side, separated by a relief strip, and a raised oval panel on the north side adorned with relief foliage in the spandrels and flanking reliefs. The southern tomb has a plain east end, while its west end and sides feature plain fielded panels, with two panels on the sides divided by relief strips.
