Description
The Mayo Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, about 3 meters south of the east end of the vestry at the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. It dates from the late 18th century and features a flat lid with a moulded edge. The corners are adorned with quarter rectangular balusters topped with fluted capitals. The sides display raised rectangular panels with a plain edge and indented segmental ends. The ends also have raised rectangular panels with indented segmental tops. The monument commemorates Robert Mayo, who died in 1785, on one side, and John Mayo on the other side, although the date of death for John has weathered off.
