Description
Wayside is a house in a row, located on Victoria Street in Painswick. The front of the building dates from the mid-19th century, while the rear parallel range is from the 17th or early 18th century. It is constructed of coursed and squared limestone with a concrete tile roof, and the back range has a corrugated asbestos cement roof. The front elevation is two storeys high and features two windows with 4-pane sash frames flanking a 20th-century glazed door that is set beneath a transom light. There are two brick chimney stacks.
The rear range has an east-facing gable and includes two storeys and an attic. It features 3-light recessed chamfer mullion casements with stopped hoods on both the ground and first floors, and a 2-light window with a full-width drip in the gable. The back wall has a 2-light window with a stopped hood on both the ground and first floors. To the left, there is a slightly canted section with a plank door in a chamfered surround, and above this, the stone wall is slightly jettied. It is likely that this back section and the adjoining Wool Cottage were originally built as two small wool-workers' cottages, which were later modified with a new section added to the street.
