Description
No 1 George Court is a house located at the end of a row on a street corner in Painswick, dating from the 18th century. It is constructed from coursed dressed stone with large quoins and features a stone gable stack. The roof is covered with concrete tiles and has a steep pitch. The building has two storeys and an attic, with two windows on the front facade.
Both the ground floor and first floor have three-light double chamfered mullioned casements set to flush sills. The ground floor windows are positioned above a continuous stopped drip that extends over the doorway. There are two 20th-century dormers on the roof. The central entrance door, also from the 20th century, is set within a shallow four-centred head. The gable facing Victoria Street features a deep-set glazed 20th-century door and a small single light window. There is a projection at the first floor. An early photograph of the building is available in the National Monuments Record.
