Description
Clevelands is a large dwelling located at the corner of St Mary's Street, adjacent to a churchyard. It was built in two phases, with the earlier section dating from the 17th century and the later part from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The earlier section is constructed of limestone rubble, featuring stone slate on the Victoria Street side and concrete tiles on the inner slope. The later unit has a limestone ashlar front, dressed stone return, and a slate roof.
The building is broad, with two storeys and an attic. The first floor has a plain string course and adjoins a later two-storey gable unit at the street corner. The later building features three plus one windows, all of which are 12-pane sashes set in plain reveals with stone sills, topped by three 20th-century steel casement gabled dormers. In the second bay, there is a six-panel part-glazed door beneath a flat wooden hood supported by wrought iron brackets. To the left, there is a cellar opening with a grille to the pavement.
The earlier building includes a two-light hollow chamfer mullion casement above a 12-pane sash. The return front facing Victoria Street has a gabled section with a two-light glazing bar casement above 12-pane sashes on both the first and ground floors, as well as a two-light hollow chamfer mullion casement and two additional two-light windows.
