Description
Springfield House is a detached house built in the early 19th century, with later additions. It features smooth render, ashlar chimneys, and a stone slate roof. The house is two stories high with an attic and has a double pile plan.
The south front has three windows, which are 12-pane sashes, except for the glazed doors to the right, each topped with a cornice enriched with dentils. There is a plain sill band on the upper floor, with the render incised to resemble ashlar below, and vermiculated quoins; plain quoin strips are above. A 19th-century iron verandah is present on the ground floor.
On the east side, which serves as the entrance, there are two full parapet gables and a three-window arrangement, with 12-pane sashes on the ground and upper floors and a 9-pane sash in the attic, all featuring dentil enriched cornices. A narrow central 8-pane sash is located on the upper floor. The central doorway is framed by a pedimented Tuscan porch, with panelled side infill that partially obscures the pilasters, leading to double 3-panel doors. To the right, there is a flat-roofed two-storey addition with a canted bay window.
At the rear, there is a large central staircase wing with an oval recess in the tympanum of the pediment, topped with a ball finial. A large round-arched stair window features plain architraves, and there are chimneys at the gable ends. The interior has not been inspected.
